From the Committee

viking-shipThe Association’s Annual General Meeting was held at Nordic House on 6 September. For the first time, and at the request made at the 2013 AGM, the meeting was held at little later than in previous years. This resulted in an improved turn-out by members with 23 people attending.

There was lively discussion on a range of topics at the meeting, one of considerable importance to the Association being the  future of Nordic House. Views both for and against keeping the House were heard. Three members, Gunnar Horn, Annette Leite and Peter Hansen, have volunteered to form a subcommittee to investigate whether the House should be sold or continue operating as is. In the near future, a survey will be created and sent out to all members to seek their views on this issue. It will be important for you to respond to this survey to inform the Committee of the wishes of members for the future direction of their Association.

Most of the positions on the Committee and other social event positions were filled at the AGM. The Committee bid farewell to Peter and Geraldine Pedersen, and were pleased to welcome Gunnar Horn as a new member of the Committee. Gunnar has a great interest in our library and has also taken on the role of librarian.

An important task at the first committee meeting after the AGM is for the committee members to appoint a president for the coming year. At this meeting on 25 September, Øystein Albertsen was nominated as Association president for 2014-2015, so we welcome both Øystein and Gunnar into their new roles and look forward to another year of working together.

Several social events are planned for the lead-up to Christmas. The first will be a social barbecue at Nordic House on 18 October at 5.30 pm. We look forward to a big turnout to this popular event. Please book in with Marianne on 0401 169 853, or by email to attfield@iinet.net.au

This will be followed by a Busy Bee on Sunday 9 November. We hope to do some outdoor painting as well as prepare the House for the coming Christmas celebrations. If you are able, please come along between 9am and 2pm to assist, even for just 1 hour. There is always some minor tasks like tidying up indoors to do, so the work is not always strenuous.

Later in the month, on Friday 21 November at 12 noon, the Over 50s Christmas Lunch will open our Christmas season. Please book in advance with Annette Leite on 0400 242 285, advising both the numbers of guests attending and whether you will be choosing to bring a plate of food or pay the full price. There will be the usual raffle, so any donation towards that would also be appreciated. Further details for both the social barbecue and the Over 50s Christmas Lunch are published in this edition of SCANPOST.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to these events.

With best regards
The Committee
