We really enjoyed St Hans on 18th June at Nordic House. It was cold but people still gathered in the garden waiting for the fire to be lit to keep them warm, singing the traditional songs after enjoying gloegg and hot dogs. Special thanks goes to Niels and Lyn, to Karen Margrethe for the music and to Merete for helping in the kitchen. It was good to see new faces and there were many children as well. 36 adults and 15 children came. Until we find a suitable venue to have a bigger bonfire, we shall continue at Nordic House.
Also thank you to Susanne for shopping and to everyone for coming and for bringing items for the raffle.
The Quiz night went well with 23 participants. Thanks to Niels and Lyn for preparing all the questions and running the show.
We had 4 big tables and there were plenty of prices including a dinner at Niels and Lyn`s place that 6 lucky people won. I hope you all enjoyed the evening. We look forward to more of the same.
A few of us are having late summer holidays, but are already busy preparing for the spring and Christmas functions hoping it will all come together later in the year.
The AGM was held Saturday 13th August and around 19 members came. Rita and Neil were presented with some gifts to show our appreciation for all the work they have done over several years as membership secretary and editor of Scanpost, and for their general help in the Association.
Also many thanks to outgoing committee Gunnar, Nina, Oeystein, Birgit and Nola for their help over the last year. Thank you also to Palle and Gunnar on the maintenance team and to Susanne for shopping, and also to Gunnar and Sigurd for their work with the library.
Nina stepped down as treasurer, but as we have not yet found a replacement she will help until one is found. On the new committee we have Øystein as president, Marianne as secretary, Merete will take over as Scanpost editor and membership secretary, and Gunnar and Joan as committee members. Nina will be acting as treasurer until 1st November, as it is hard to manage without one, so we are urgently looking for someone to take over.
We look forward to another year of good times and hoping for an increase in membership. As in any club membership, you get out of the club what you put in. Supporting the club events is the main thing, but also volunteering your time to help ensure that events are successful. This is valuable to your club and very rewarding for yourself.
We had a Busy Bee on Sunday the 21st August, just a few came, and general house work and garden tidy was done.
Let me not forget to mention that we are celebrating the 50th Anniversary, since the formation of the Scandinavian Association, 1966-2016, with a buffet lunch at Miss Maud’s on Sunday the 23rd October at 12 noon. Cost will be $ 50 per person, one drink included in the price, $25 for Children (4-13 inclusive) and $ 55 for non-members.
We are hoping to see lots of members, old and new. Please bring your family and friends and if you are in touch with old members please invite them to come along.
The cut-off date for booking is 12th October and payment has to be completed with your booking. You can book in with Nina on ninahkimba@gmail.com or phone 9245 8768 .
Niels Dahl is organising another Quiz night on Saturday November 19th, so get your general knowledge up to scratch. It will be at 6.30 with the quiz starting at 7 pm.
With best regards
The Committee
